Plans for Early 2009

On 29 December 2008 Ayse and I plan to leave for Istanbul. During our three week stay I will meet with potential donors and a number of philanthropic foundations in order to complete the funding for the new Çaykişla School.

A prospective contractor based in Istanbul, who has built schools and girl’s dormitories in the region and who has been providing me estimates, will finalize a construction proposal based on the latest design and the 2009 labor and material costs. This will not preclude bidding the project to several other qualified contractors.

I will travel to Adapazari; meet with the Governor and with various people in the Milli Egitim’s office where I hope to frame the content of a final Protocol. While in Adapazari I expect to meet and make presentations of the project to a number of prominent local families and companies in the area.

Prior to returning I expect to select and finalize a protocol with an established Foundation (Vakif) in Turkey necessary for the administration of this project. I will have final disbursement authority within this chosen Foundation for all project/contractor related payments.

• Project Mission

  A devastating earthquake left many children from the villages of Caykisla, Seyh and Saricalar victimized and in many cases orphaned. These bright and eager children need a school where their young minds will develop to more fully realize their innate potential. The intent of this project is to build a new Primary School in the Village of Çaykişla by August 2009, the 10-year anniversary of the earthquake. To be part of this worthy effort is a debt due from our past to future generations.
